JUST A SMALL TOWN GIRL LIVIN' IN A LONELY WORLD{ she took the midnight train goin' anywhere }
Ronnie hated this day even though she should. She waits for this day every year. The date? February 14th. Valentine's day. The holiday for couples to be all lovely dovey and it made her sick to her stomach. But she has to like this day because it's her birthday.Today she turned 21. She was finally legal to drink out in bars and no one could stop her from doing it. This was the birthday that she had been waiting for. And she really wanted her father to be here, but she knew that he couldn't. She was most likely going to spend most of the day in her room, by herself and later head to the bar and drink until she was completely wasted. She just wanted this day to pass.
Getting out of bed, Ronnie got dressed and straightened her hair. She never had her hair curly. Every once in a while she did but today she was just going to have it straight. She put her normal make up on and headed into her room. She grabbed her song book and a pen and her iPod as well as her sunglasses and headed outside. It was nice out, not too hot but not too cold. She could handle it. Ronnie opened the door that would leave her to the outside world and she made her way to the fountain they had on campus. She often sat there when she wanted peace and quiet and she wanted to write.
Ronnie sat down on the edge of the fountain and put her iPod headphones in her ears. She glanced at her phone and frowned. Her father hasn't called her yet to wish her a happy birthday. In fact, no one had wished her a happy birthday yet. This puzzled her. She looked around and saw couples everywhere. It made her sad and upset because she wanted to be with Mason, so bad, but she knew that he would never, ever, commit. And that frustrated her. She was falling for him and it scared her. Ronnie opened up her notebook and began writing. She often wrote songs in this book but she also wrote down stories about things going on in her life, or poems based on her feelings. It made it easier for her to get it all out without doing something rash.

------------------------------------You wrap me in your armsand chill me to the bone------------------------------------ Mason was having one of those days, the ones where nothing seems to be going his way. First his car had gotten a flat tire, which pretty much meant he was screwed considering he didn’t know how to change a tire. So he was forced to walk a quarter of a mile to the nearest gas station to ask for help. It took a good hour to get there, and to get the help. On his way to the gas station he got a call from his parents telling him that they were coming to visit, and that meant he had to clean up his pigsty that he called a dorm room, and to top it all off he was still hungover from the night before, but at least he looked somewhat good. Mason wasn’t the type of person who would normally get drunk at a party…okay maybe he was but normally he had at least maintain some type of control.
‘What the hell am I doing out of bed again?’ He thought to himself, but smiled when he remembered that he was taking Ronnie out for her birthday. He was actually really excited about that, which surprised him a little. Mason had never actually taken a girl out officially on a date. ‘Was this a date?’ he thought, ‘Did she think this was a date? Did he want her to think this was a date?’ All these thoughts flitted through his head as he drove towards her house. He wasn’t exactly sure what to think, and that unnerved him a bit. He didn’t get unerved very often. Actually he didn’t get his nerved rattled at all, and the fact that he was feeling this made him a bit nervous. He knew she was having an effect on him, and it confused him to know end, but he decided not to dwell on that quite yet.
Mason drove for a little bit driving pass his favorite coffeehouse since he had moved to UCLA. It definitely had the best cup of coffee in town, and lord knew that he had a thing for coffee. It was sadly one of her weaknesses in life, well that and chocolate…and hot ladies…and pixie sticks. He arrived at the Delta Gamma house a short time after. Getting out of his car, he ran a hand through her hair, trying to straighten it out, attempting to make it a least look good, before knocking on the door.

JUST A SMALL TOWN GIRL LIVIN' IN A LONELY WORLD{ she took the midnight train goin' anywhere }
Ronnie knew that today was going to be the worst day of her life. She hated her life and she especially hated her birthday. It was on Valentine's day. The number one day for couples to be romantic. It wouldn't be a problem if she had a boyfriend but because she didn't, it sucked. However she did have Mason but she wasn't quite sure what he was to her. There was no doubt in her mind that she wanted him, badly, to be his but part of her also knew that he would never become committed to her. That hurt her. She finally found a guy who she was falling in love with and she didn't know if he would ever be hers. Would she have to love him from afar? Would she just have to settle with just being friends?
Ronnie looked around and she noticed a change in the atmosphere. She knew that it meant only one thing. He was here. Ronnie turned around and she saw him fixing his hair. She knew that he was going to her room to see her. She smiled brightly and took her iPod buds out of her ear. She stood up, dropping her note book and walking towards Mason, "Mason!" Ronnie said smiling. That was the first smile she had all day. She was so happy to see him. He made her life ten times better. She knew that she was getting in this relationship between she and him too deep and it wasn't going to turn out good in the end.

------------------------------------You wrap me in your armsand chill me to the bone------------------------------------ A smile crossed Mason’s face at the sight of her. “Happy Birthday,” he said pulling a dandelion he had swiped from the front lawn from behind his back, “Make a wish.” Dandelions were his favorite kinds of flower, because they could make things happen, they were magical, or at least he had always thought so. He was a little nervous. He really wanted this day to be special for her; he suspected that she hadn’t had very many good birthdays in her twenty-one years of life. He on the other hand couldn’t complain about his birthdays, his parents as well as all his siblings had made them special.
Mason took in her appearance. Once again she looked absolutely amazing to him in her brown cowboy boots, and red halter. Absolutely stunning. So stunning that he almost would rather they not go out and stay in all day and do other things. For a split second he actually considered that, but then quickly shot it down. He needed to take her out today, if not for her, then at least for his sake. “You look absolutely amazing,” he said smiling, "Shall we go?” He offered out his arm and looked at her expectantly.

JUST A SMALL TOWN GIRL LIVIN' IN A LONELY WORLD{ she took the midnight train goin' anywhere }
Ronnie saw a smile grace his face and she knew that he was just as happy to see her as she was to see him. She heard him say happy birthday and her smile got even wider, "Thank you. You're the first person who has said that to me today," Ronnie said softly. Ronnie saw him swipe a dandelion out from behind his back and she smiled. She used to love them when she was little. She remembered running through fields of them watching all their little pods float in the sky. She took it from him, closed her eyes and wished.I wish that Mason will ask me to be his girlfriend, if not now, in the near future.Ronnie blew the pods off into the wind, "And then wind will carry my wish to the heavens and if God loves me he'll answer my wish." Ronnie said softly.
Ronnie heard what he said and even though she should be used to compliments, she couldn't help but blush, "Thanks Mason. You look pretty handsome yourself," Ronnie said, taking a bold step. She was a little shy when it came to compliments but this one, it seemed like it needed to be said. Ronnie heard what he said and saw him holding out his arm, "We shall," She said hooking onto his arm. Ronnie looked at him, "So where are we going?" Ronnie asked him looking at him. She reached up and took his hat off his head and put it on her own, "Because for all I know you could be kidnapping me and holding me for ransom." Ronnie knew that this wasn't the case but she just liked to bust on him. It was fun.

------------------------------------You wrap me in your armsand chill me to the bone------------------------------------ “Really?” Mason asked frowning a bit, “That’s a little sad, that nobody’s told you happy birthday. Even your sorority sisters didn’t say it?” He lost himself in thought for a little bit. Shaking his head he offered her a smile. “What did you wish for?” he asked, his smile growing wider as he watched her blow out the dandelion, and made a wish. He hoped she got her wish whatever it was. She deserved it more than anyone. He watched the seeds float of into the wind for a minute before turning her attention back to her.
Mason raised an eyebrow and smirked at her blush. He loved it when girls blushed; it was a good sign that he was doing a good job. His smirked grew bigger when she told him he looked pretty handsome himself. He blew on his fingernails, polishing them on his jacket, “I know.” He said laughing. He also loved getting his ego brushed. “We’re going to that club downtown, um…Level 9, I think it’s called.” He laughed again when she took his hat, “I’m getting that back right?” He was only joking with her. She could keep the hat for as long as she wanted too. She looked good in it. “Pssh, who would think I would want to kidnap you? If anything they’d think you were trying to kidnap me,” he said playfully nudging Ronnie’s shoulder, leading her towards his car. He was definitely really excited about tonight.

JUST A SMALL TOWN GIRL LIVIN' IN A LONELY WORLD{ she took the midnight train goin' anywhere }
With Mason, things just seemed natural. Being with him and flirting with him was all natural and it wasn't weird at all. Except for when she said something that was about their relationship... or where they stand. She hated bringing it up but she sorta wanted to know. She didn't want to be strung along. She couldn't bear getting hurt. She really felt for him and knowing that she may not be anything more then just a fuck buddy, it hurt. And it scared her. The future was a scary thing for her. What the future held was totally and completely unseen. She never liked to think about the what ifs.
Ronnie looked at Mason, "Nope. Well I sorta kept myself in my room. Locked up and then I finally rolled out of bed and came out here. Didn't really give anyone a chance to say anything to me. So I guess it's my own fault?" Ronnie said in a question. Ronnie heard what he asked and she looked at him. "I can't tell you that! Then it won't come true! And believe me this one I want to come true. So I'm not saying a word." Ronnie said smiling. Ronnie watched as the seeds floated away and she smiled softly. She wished, sometimes, that she could float away in the wind. When she died she wanted to be carried off into the wind. She didn't want to be buried.
Ronnie heard what he said in response to her saying he looked handsome, "Wow. Cocky much? Just kidding," Ronnie said nudging him laughing softly. She loved how he made her laugh. It just came so naturally. Ronnie heard what she said and she smiled brightly, "Really?! I can't wait! I've been there only a few times but I was never allowed to drink." Drinking wasn't something that she wanted to do tonight but she was just excited to be going out with Mason and spending the day with him. Ronnie heard what he said about his hat and she looked at him, "Let me think... nope sorry. I'm keeping it. I like it," Ronnie said quietly. Ronnie wasn't sure if he would be okay with it. "Me kidnap you? Honey I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to kidnap you. You'd over power me..." Ronnie said smiling.

------------------------------------You wrap me in your armsand chill me to the bone------------------------------------ Mason listened to what she said about being locked up in her room and really couldn’t blame her for wanting to stay in her room for her birthday. He always enjoyed just lying in bed, sleeping, or listening to music. “Oh, come on,” he said when she said that she wouldn’t tell him her wish. “Maybe if you tell me I could help push it along,” he paused and smiled, “or maybe you’re right it would be better if you didn’t tell me.” He laughed along with her when she called him cocky, “confidence dear, like I told you before,” he said still laughing. “You look good in it too.” He was talking about her and his hat. He laughed again at her comment about him over powering her, “I can think of a few other ways to overpower you,” he said wiggling his eyebrows and laughing one more time. Mason opened the car door for her to get, “Ladies first,” he said waiting for her to getting in before walking around to his side.
The two of them had a really good thing going on between them. Yea it was complicated and emotional, but what relationship wasn’t. He knew he should at some point probably commit to her; he just couldn’t do it, not yet anyway. Not after what had happen. He hadn’t told her about what had happen yet…what he had done… That was another thing he had to do eventually, but he didn’t want to just now, not when their “relationship” was still somewhat new. He turned and looked at her smiled before starting his car engine, knowing right then why he had not told her. He didn’t want to change the way she looked at him, like he was her everything and he wouldn’t know what to do with himself if she ever looked at him differently.

JUST A SMALL TOWN GIRL LIVIN' IN A LONELY WORLD{ she took the midnight train goin' anywhere } Ronnie knew, from the moment she woke up, that today was going to be horrible. She never liked her birthday for one reason; it was on Valentine’s Day. There was just something about the holiday that she hated. Maybe it was the fact that she never had a boyfriend or someone special to share it with. That must be it. Her dad always tried to make her birthday a day to remember but it never worked out because he always had to take her mom out for dinner or something. Even though he offered Ronnie to tag along with them, she really did not want to impose. Ronnie was also dreading this day because she had met Mason, a person who she was falling in love with every day and she knew that he would never commit so they could never be more than just friends. It killed her to know that they could never be more than just friends.
Ronnie heard what he said about her wish and she looked at him. In all honesty, she wanted to tell him because it had to do with him. But she didn’t want to make him become all awkward and withdrawn. She wanted this day to be memorable, “Well if it comes true then I’ll tell you what my wish was. But even if it doesn’t, by the end of the night I’ll tell you my wish,” Ronnie said smiling at him. She knew that she was going to end up telling him and if he became withdrawn and distant then so be it. She had to tell him because it did involve him and she thought that he had the right to know. Whether this would be a mistake of not would be seen later tonight. In addition, if it was a mistake then so be it. She’ll have to deal with the consequences.
Ronnie heard what he said about how she looked in his hat and she smiled, “I try,” Ronnie said giggling. In truth, she loved the hat on him but she also loved the way it made her feel. Knowing that she had something of his. It made her feel loved for some reason. Something she hadn’t felt in a long time. At what he said about overpowering her, she raised her eyebrows, “Oh really?” Ronnie said smiling knowing what he meant. Ronnie was sure of what he meant and she was just going to ignore it for now. Ronnie heard him say Ladies First and then open the door. She smiled and before she got into the car, she placed a kiss on his cheek and smiled. She got into the car, sat down and buckled up.
Ronnie knew that there was an inner battle happening inside Mason’s head. She could tell just by looking at him and it killed her to know that he was suffering. She did not know what the battle was but she knew that it had to be serious. Ronnie looked at him before he starts the car and she smiled and blushed when she locked eyes with him. For some reason, when they make eye contact it makes her blush. She loved that feeling.
