i ain't fakin' it -------- The beach was lovely at night. Sometimes Parker found herself laying in the sand staring at the stars just to get away from the craziness of college life. She was more stressed than usual these days, especially with her course load and pledging zeta tau alpha. Greek like was fun and new and amazing, but it was a big time commitment when she was pledging. There was no doubt in her mind, Parker desperately wanted to be in ZTA. She just got flustered easily.
Tonight was one of those nights where Parker wanted to dissolve into the sand. She grabbed a canvas bag off of her floor and threw a few essentials into it. Cell phone, check. Wallet, check. Parker reached under her bed and grabbed her trusty bottle of scotch and put it in her bag. It was probably unhealthy that she found stress relief at the bottom of a bottle, but she was in college. Drinking was normal. Now that she had all of the essentials, she slipped into a pair of purple flip flops and grabbed a green hoodie off of her chair. Parker threw the hoodie over her purple vee neck and zipped it up before locking her door. As she exited her building she took a deep breath of the night air. It was nice to be outside of her room.
Her flip flops smacked loudly against the pavement as she walked down the sidewalk. The bottle of scotch clinked lightly against her cell phone every few steps, and Parker smiled. She felt a little bad ass walking around with liquor in her bag. Parker wasn't much of a rebel, she tended to keep her law breaking on the down low. In high school Parker wasn't much of a rebel because she was usually the designated driver. There was something about being away from home that made her act a little crazier. College was supposed to be the time of her life, so Parker wanted to live it to the fullest.
Parker had texted Mason earlier telling him to meet her at the beach, and this made her excited. Mason was one of the best friends she had made at UCLA so far, and he was a good guy. They always had a good time when they talked or hung out. It did help her out to have the president of ZTA's brother fraternity as a best friend, but that's not why she befriended him. Mason just exuded this calm that Parker found fascinating. He seemed to be laid back all the time, unlike Parker who was normally frazzled during the week. It was nice to just relax and talk to Mason.
When she reached the beach, Parker took off her flip flops and shoved them in her bag. She dug her feet into the sand and walked over to a spot on the beach near the water. Parker put her bag down and then laid on her back, crossing her arms behind her head and closed her eyes. This was one of her favorite games. Parker tried her best to match her breathing with the natural rhythm of the waves. She felt instantly calmed.

Mason finished the last of his pixie stick before texting Parker back and closing his phone. Pixie sticks were his favorite kind of candy, and he was happy that despite the fact that he had grown up, that small detail hadn’t changed. He set down his bass next to his bed and hopped off the bed. He was halfway to the door before he remembered that he didn’t have his shoes on, and that he had kicked them off last night before entering his room last night.
“Where did you go?” He mumbled lifting up his bed covers. However He didn’t see them there. He checked his closet, but didn’t see them there either. Finally He stood up and let out a sigh of frustration, before noticing them by the door. Putting them on, He grabbed the key to his dorm, and made his way out to the door.
Mason always liked nighttime best. There was just a stillness at night that the daytime didn’t have, and he loved that. He also enjoyed the animals that came out at night. He liked the chirping sounds of the crickets, and the splashing of waves as they hit the sand and moved back again. He loved hearing the seagulls talk to one another, and watching the animals he didn’t get to see during the day interact with each other. Mason pulled out a cigarette from his back pocket and lit it, as he walked continued on his way to the beach, and let his mind wander back.
When he was younger after his siblings and parents went to bed, he would sneak out of his house, and go sit on the beach that was down the street from his house. He came back time and time just to be alone. It had been a rarity in his house. He did after all live in a house with 8 other people. Mason couldn’t lie when he arrived at UCLA he enjoyed his short time of peace he had to himself, but then he would have to go home and his time to himself was cut a little shorter. Don’t get me wrong he loved his siblings all 6 of them but sometimes there was just too many of them.
Mason could see the beach in sight, as well as seeing the girl who was waiting for him. Parker. He quickened his paced and would reach the beach in just a few short steps. He knew Parker pretty well, she being his best friend and all. He let out a small laugh remembering the first time he’d met her. She was piss poor drunk, and he hadn’t been much better. Thank God, they hadn’t slept with each other, because if that wouldn’t have been awkward, he didn’t know what would. She was pretty a pretty cool chick, and it didn’t hurt that she was pledging his sister sorority, the ZTA’s. Finally reaching his destination walked up to her and smirked “Hey stranger, long time no see.”

i ain't fakin' it -------- Parker's eyes snapped open as sat up quickly and looked around to find Mason standing next to her and smirking. She exhaled loudly and grinned. Of course it was Mason who startled her, she was the one who invited him here in the first place. Parker had always been a little jumpy, and sometimes it got the best of her. Whenever somebody dropped a book in class or made a sudden movement near her, she automatically flinched. Her best friend back home liked to take advantage of this and would suddenly clap loudly in her ear just to watch her jump. It was quite annoying.
"Jesus you almost gave me a heart attack." she said running her fingers through her hair. Normally she wore it up in a ponytail, but tonight she wore it down and relaxed. Her bangs fell in her eyes and she instinctively pushed them behind her ear. "No time no see is right. I've barely left my room in the past couple of days. It's terrible." Parker hadn't chosen her schedule wisely and ended up taking classes where the work load was extreme. She was getting better at managing her time, but pledging was hard because she barely had any free time.
"Sit down, stay awhile. If you keep lurking over me people will think you're trying to kidnap me." Parker reached over for her bag and pulled out her bottle of scotch. She grinned as she unscrewed the top and took a large gulp. The liquid burned the back of her throat and made her eyes water. It was a familiar feeling that Parker enjoyed. She shook her head after she swallowed and set the bottle down in the sand. "Drink up my boy. Hope you like scotch." It was a harsh liquor and most people thought she was strange for drinking it straight. Her grandfather loved scotch and Parker found the smell of it comforting.
Parker turned her attention to Mason. She was extremely happy that the two had become friends because he seemed to just get her. He was also incredibly fun to be around. "So tell me. How's life? I hear you've been spotted around with some girl with a boys name. Should I be worried you have a new best friend?" she joked. Parker was generally interested about the girl though. She had heard the girls in ZTA talking about Mason and her, and Parker was curious.

Mason let out a small laugh at the startled look on Parker’s face. He honestly hadn’t meant to scare her, but her reaction was pretty funny. He had always enjoyed scaring people and getting scared in return, but unfortunately he didn’t scare very often. He blamed that on the fact that he had somewhat grown up. When he was a child, everything short of his own shadow would scare him. His siblings had gotten a kick out of that back in the day. “Ain’t that the truth,” he said agreeing with her statement of her barely leaving her room. He was beginning to wonder if she had died in there.
Mason plopped himself down next to her at her request. “Pssh, who would think I would want to kidnap you? If anything they’d think you were trying to kidnap me,” he said playfully nudging Parker’s shoulder and taking the scotch bottle from her. He couldn’t lie scotch not high on his list of favorite alcoholic beverages, but that didn’t stop him from drinking it, or from letting out harsh cough after taking a swig. “Damn girl, how do you drink that stuff?” He said kind of quietly still trying to adjust to the feeling of the scotch burning in his chest.
He laid down in an attempt to ease the burning in his chest. It didn’t really help but oh well. He turned his head to face her as she asked about his life.“Well, you would know about my life if you left your dorm every once awhile, nothing really interesting since we last talked, but yea, I met a girl, her name is Ronnie and she’s pretty amazing.” He smiled thinking about Ronnie. That girl was something else, and it wasn’t that he didn’t want to commit to her; he just couldn’t bring himself to do it. Mason enjoyed his freedom, and had always thought he was too young to be tied down to a relationship, that and the fact that with the exception of his sisters, and Parker over here, he thought girls were only good for one thing: Sex. Though he never told any of them this, for fear that they would kick his ass. But with Ronnie he didn’t want to. He shook he head to clear his thought, “But yea, I really like this girl. What about you? You got a guy to need me to beat up?”
